Is this Stamp Paper Genuine or Fake?
While in its endeavour to root out fake stamps and stamp papers that may be
in circulation, the Government desires to inform the public about the need to
be cautious in identifying the genuine stamps and stamp papers at the time of
purchase.

Non-judicial stamp papers have the following features.
Impressed Papers of lower denominations are of uniform colour with watermark
of Ashoka pillar and the words satyamevajayate on the plain part of it
in Devanagari Script.
Denomination of Rs.1,000/- to 5,000 have the words "India non-judicial"
on the printed part and watermark of Ashoka wheel and words "Government
of India / Bharath Sarkar" on the plain part.

Higher denomination papers of Rs.10,000/-
to Rs.25,000/- bear multicoloured print with a security
thread on the left and also watermark similar to the one
in Rs.1,000/- paper. These papers also have serial numbers
printed on them.
The special adhesive stamps of any denomination have single colour print
with Bharat in Devanagari script and India in English with the notations-
Brokers Note / Share Transfer / Insurance / Notarial / Foreign Bills printed
on the Stamps.
Impressed (non-judicial) Stamps above Rs.10,000/- bear serial numbers.

Karnataka Stamp Act, 1957 has been amended with effect
from 01-04-1999, providing for the payment of stamp duty
by DD / Pay Order or Challan as measure to prevent the circulation
of fake papers.(Section 10A of the Karnataka Stamp Act,1957)

Please purchase stamp papers only from licensed stamp
vendors and verify them for the security features mentioned
above. |
| The use of stamp paper is not compulsory but is optional.
Provision is also made to execute instruments / documents
on plain paper and pay the duty as required. |
Insist on the signature / licence number / name and address
of the vendor on the stamp paper you purchase and check
for the seal of the treasury. |
| Franking machines have been setup in all Sub-Registry
offices in the State and in a few financial organisations
in Bangalore city, where stamps of lower denominations could
be got franked on formats of documents. |
Do not succumb to the attractive rebates / discounts /
paybacks offered by any person for purchase of stamps and
stamp papers as there is no provision to offer commission
by authorised vendors. |
| Regular inspection of the records of the stamp vendors
and reconciliation of the accounts has been ordered by the
Department to detect the fake paper circulation. |
Minimize the use of stamp papers and instead pay the duty
through DD / Challan or Pay order. |
Please bring any suspected sale of fake stamp paper to the notice of the Department
